The Theatre Department at Wakeland High School is emerging into a dedicated and dynamic program. We have set out to create a program that will inspire students and expose them to dramatic literature and methodology through both class work and performance. We look forward to strengthening our program and continuing with the standard of excellence that has been set thus far.

Our Department offers a variety of exciting and challenging courses, ranging from introductory acting and stagecraft, to advanced theatre production.  Details of these classes can be found in the Course Guide, which is available through the counseling office.

We are blessed with great facilities at Wakeland. We have a large Proscenium stage theatre with 600+ seating capacity as well as a small black box theatre which doubles as our classroom. We have a scene shop and storage areas that allow students to gain hands on experience in a working theatre.

To date  we have: chartered an International Thespian troupe (troupe #7160), competed yearly in the UIL One Act Play competition, created a Theatre Booster Club, produced two full length shows as well as two musicals, (including last year’s highly successful production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast), and produced annual Senior Directed Shows. This year, we look forward to strengthening our program and continuing with the standard of excellence that has been set in our first four years.
